Sea water and marine atmosphere are the most corrosive environments we have around us. Today, steel is among the most widely used construction materials. It corrodes in all humid environments and requires protection with paint or zinc coating – often by galvanizing, or a combination.

Currently, galvanized steel is used as standard in the fittings, and the buoy is moored by using a galvanized steel chain – both parts are exposed to corrosion. Today’s buoys only have a limited period of operation prior to requiring maintenance or replacement of these parts.
